Small-Block Teams Lead Off Friday Night Program Under The Lights At Syracuse Mile

SYRACUSE, NY - Oct. 7, 2011 – By Kevin Kovac/DIRTcar Racing P.R. – Billy Decker of Unadilla, N.Y., and Andy Bachetti of Great Barrington, Mass., scored victories in Friday night's historic DIRTcar 358-Modified Twin 20 heat races during Super DIRT Week XL at the New York State Fairgrounds.

The small-block qualifiers led off the first heat-race program run under the lights in the history of the October classic at the Moody Mile. Three portable Musco light towers were positioned in the infield of the massive oval to illuminate the speedway at a level never before seen by fans and competitors.

(358-Modifieds) headlined the list of victors in Friday afternoon's DIRTcar Futures features during Super DIRT Week XL at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Other winners in the short sprints reserved for drivers making first visits to the venerable Syracuse Mile in their respective classes included Cody McPherson of St. Catharines, Ont., and Bobby Hackel IV of Rensselaer, N.Y. (Sportsman) and Rick Achzet of Gloversville, N.Y. (Pro Stocks).

Fine Field Of 64 DIRTcar Sportsman Sign In For Action On  ‘Moody Mile’

 

SYRACUSE, NY - Oct. 7, 2011 – By Jamie Weaknecht/DIRTcar Racing P.R. - Neil Williams has proven he can go fast in a DIRTcar Sportsman at the New York State Fairgrounds. Now he wants to show everyone he can last as well.

 

The 21-year-old driver from Pittsgrove, N.J., was quickest in DIRTcar Sportsman Championship 30 qualifying for the second consecutive year, besting a 64-car field in Friday afternoon’s time trials on the famed Syracuse Mile. He circled the historic track in 32.859 seconds (109.559 mph) – nearly a half-second faster than Cody McPherson of St. Catharines, Ont., who turned the second-fastest lap.

A 20-lap battle between twelve DIRTcar champions will take place on the Syracuse mile at the conclusion of the Nationwide Insurance 150 on Saturday evening.

 

Billy Decker picked up the $2,500 victory in the 1st Safety-Kleen Shootout back on May 29 at Rolling Wheels Raceway. Decker will look to defend his Shootout crown Saturday night.
